Fair MusE has launched a survey directed at all music professionals in the European Union. The purpose of this survey is to explore how music creators, performers, and industry experts perceive and address the concept of “fairness.” The results of this study will be crucial in implementing new policies. The aim is to create a more transparent, competitive, and sustainable European music ecosystem.
What Is Fair MusE?
Fair MusE is a European Union program that brings together various academic and industry institutions from different countries. The program aims to raise awareness about how algorithms, data collection, and the models used by social media and streaming platforms influence both music creators and consumers. By examining these factors, Fair MusE seeks to ensure that the music industry operates in a way that is fair and transparent for everyone involved.
The project is a collaborative effort involving institutions from nine countries. Portugal, Belgium, Denmark, France, Greece, Estonia, Austria, Italy, and the United Kingdom. Key participants include the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, Free University of Brussels, Aalborg University, University of Lille, University of Liège, Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy, University of Tartu, Central European University, Italian Society of Authors and Publishers, and Verifi Media Limited. These diverse partners bring together expertise from law, economics, social sciences, and data science. This address the challenges of fairness in the music industry.
