Over the past few months, Wakan Tanka Prod has had the pleasure of collaborating with EU Mobility Sverige as part of their student exchange programs within the European Union.

Thanks to this partnership, we had the opportunity to host interns from Italy, Bulgaria, and Latvia, specializing in marketing, programming, and graphic design. For many of them, this was their first work experience, and we are proud to have contributed to their professional journey.

Introducing Students to Cumbia

A key focus of their internship was to promote cumbia music in Sweden. For most of the students, cumbia was a completely new genre. We introduced them to its origins and shared the stories of iconic artists such as Andrés Landero and Celso Piña.

We also explored modern cumbia fusions, including styles that mix cumbia with electronic music, dub, hip-hop, and pop; and subgenres like nu cumbia, cumbia wepa, and others. The students learned how traditional music can evolve while still honoring its roots.

Real-Life Research in Malmö

As part of their work, the interns conducted street interviews in Malmö, Sweden. They asked locals if they had ever heard of cumbia and if they listened to Latin American music. The answers were diverse and often surprising, reflecting Malmö’s multicultural spirit. You can check these interviews in our social media: Instagram, Tik Tok, Youtube, Facebook.

A Valuable Experience for All

This exchange was not only a learning experience for the students, but also a rewarding collaboration for our team. We were happy to inspire young people, introduce them to a rich musical tradition, and work together on creative projects.
